Zuiderzeemuseum
The Zuiderzeemuseum is an outdoor museum. A Zuiderzee village was reconstructed using original dwellings and also the church of Den Oever can be found here. It was demolished brick by brick and reconstructed in the museum. Also the indoor museum has a lot to offer in terms of expositions and activities. Many things are organised for children, for instance making a boat out of a clog and participate in ancient Dutch games
Outdoor museum
Walk back in time across the clinker streets of the outdoor museum. A complete village is formed here by more than one hundred and forty historic buildings from around the former Zuiderzee. Meet the residents of Urk, visit the cheese warehouse and look over the shoulder of the blacksmith. Do you remember the purpose of farm credit service? Come in and find out! And by all means, do not miss out on the contemporary design presentations inspired by living and working in the old days. Has history made you a bit peckish? Then have a delicious smoked fish at the fish smokehouse or have a snack at café Hindeloopen with a beautiful view across the IJsselmeer.
Indoor museum
The indoor museum is the Zuiderzee's treasury chamber; here, the different collections are being exposed to the public from a contemporary viewpoint. Make the journey around the Zuiderzee and find out how people lived at this inland sea in the old days. Within the exhibition you travel from Enkhuizen, across the Afsluitdijk to Friesland. Then you return to North-Holland, visiting Marken and Volendam. Take some time to admire the large collection of historic boats in the Schepenhal.
