It is situated in the quaint village of Arcen, in the beautiful Maasduinen of Noord-Limburg. Castle gardens Arcen is one of the most versatile flower and plants parks in Europe. The park has more than 15 unique gardens, situated around a historic country house, with a 17th century castle. Apart from the beautiful flora and fauna there are a lot of fun things to do for the whole family! Go on a scavenger hunt with the kids, visit our magic events, walk along the trodden paths or just beyond them and unwind in one of our many cafes and restaurants.
A series of garden experiences
While walking through the park, you can enjoy the scents and colours of the gardens, of the many ponds and beautiful views. Each garden offers a new, green experience and is different in size and style. With 10 themed rose chambers and more than 8,000 rose bushes, the baroque Rosarium is the showpiece of the park. The subtropical greenhouse Casa Verde has fig trees, palm trees and cactuses, among others. Lingering through the bamboo woods and the Oriental Water garden you imagine yourself being in South-East Asia. Additionally, there are smaller themed gardens, such as the Italian garden, the Japanese garden or the Kitchen & Vegetable garden. In the shade of the castle, the Rhododendron garden can be found, with a beautiful collection of Rhododendrons. As he constructed the park, landscape architect Niek Roozen took account of the different seasons. In spring, as well as in summer and autumn, castle gardens Arcen is certainly worth a visit.
Arcen Castle
The castle, surrounded by a moat, has a grand appearance, taking you back to the 17th century. The present castle was built on the remains of the former castle, which, in turn was built on the remains of the first castle 'Huys den Kamp'. The ground floor is furnished historically, with furniture and paintings, this is where you can experience the history of Arcen castle. The rooms on the ground floor serve as an exposition area for themed floral art with weekly alternating themes. On the Van Gelder floor, one can find temporary exhibitions and floral shows.
Epicurean hospitality
For people from Limburg, hospitality and tasty food is obvious. For that reason, there are different (self-service) restaurants in the park, each with a beautiful terrace. Here, you can enjoy, for instance, Limburgse vlaai (flan), rolls, soups, lunch dishes or a drink. Restaurant the Koetshuys also serves delicious pancakes. In the kitchen regional products are widely used. It is possible to reserve a well-stocked picnic basket and during the holiday season, you can have a brunch in the vaulted cellar of the castle.
Activities
In addition to a visit to the gardens, visitors of the park can also enjoy various activities. Twice a day, there is a tour (free of charge) that visitors can join without signing up in advance. Also an audio tour is available that provides background information during the walk through the gardens. At the weekends there is often live music on the stage of the subtropical greenhouse Casa Verde and in the Water and Sculpture garden there is a permanent art-exposition.
